News: I have graduated in July 2008 and moved to the University of Hong Kong. You are welcome to visit my new website at http://www.cs.hku.hk/~cwu.

I was a Ph.D. student during 2004 to 2008 at the Computer Engineering Group in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto, advised by Professor Baochun Li. I received both my M.Engr. and B.Engr. degrees in Computer Science from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.

My research interests focus on large-scale measurement and statistical study of real-world peer-to-peer applications, and the analysis, design and optimization of distributed algorithms in distributed systems with a strong theoretical foundation. In particular, I am interested in deriving in-depth insights from extensive measurements and statistical studies of large-scale commercial peer-to-peer streaming applications, over a long period of time. I am also interested in seeking solutions to the important problems motivated by the insights, by designing distributed optimized algorithms based on a variety of theories, including optimization, game theory, graph theory, and network coding.
